A Harnett County Woman Pleads Guilty To State Tax Offenses

RALEIGH – A Lillington woman pleaded guilty Monday in Wake Superior Court to tax charges filed by the North Carolina Department of Revenue.

Brittany K. Blue, 23, of 111 Pat Way Lane, Lillington pleaded guilty on December 9, 2013 to two counts of Obtaining Property by False Pretenses and two counts of Uttering Forged Instrument.

Superior Court Judge Henry W. Hight, Jr. sentenced Blue to a six-month minimum, eight-month maximum prison term. The sentence was suspended and Blue was placed on supervised probation for 18 months.   She was ordered to pay restitution of $1097.69, pay a fine of $2,000, and perform 100 hours of community service.

Information presented in court showed that Blue filed 2009 and 2010 North Carolina individual income tax returns representing that she had North Carolina income taxes withheld from her wages different than that reported by her employer.  Blue’s Uttering Forged Instrument charges resulted from false 2009 and 2010 Wage and Tax Statements.

The charges against Blue resulted from an investigation by a special agent with the Department’s Criminal Investigations Section in Raleigh.
