Speak Out!!!

Has anyone noticed that since we elected Renee Ellmers to represent us in Congress we never see her anymore, she is missing in action and we are stuck with what we voted into office… Bob Etheridge was visible in his district. Renee needs to spend less time in DC and taking trips and come back to the place that sent her up there.

I wish the Harnett Dispatch much success with the online newspaper. It is refreshing to have a source of news and information that covers Western Harnett County and will keep all informed of news and events occurring in Harnett County and Raleigh that will affect us without bias.

E-mailed commissioner Burkin and got no reply ! how rude.
I would like to know why Harnett County will not allow volunteers to help with the county animal shelter, I understand there are liability concerns, but If volunteers were to sign a waiver releasing the county from any liability, then what would be the problem. things have to change at the shelter and the use of volunteers would be a great start. The animal lovers in this area and the state are tired of treatment that the public and the animals receive from harnett countyand we will not go away until changes are made.

Re: Mr. Rouse’s comment: I recently moved to Harnett County from Los Angeles County (California). The shelter systems of both the City of Los Angeles and the County of Los Angeles rely heavily on volunteers (I was one) to assist with feeding, kennel cleaning, walking and socialization, training and “personality” assessment, posting adoptable animals on Petfinder et al, and other tasks. Yes, there are volunteer agreements and there is volunteer training. If Los Angeles can figure it out, I would imagine that Harnett County can also. It is a shame that Harnett County is not utilizing this valuable resource. I’m sure it would be possible for Harnett County to obtain a sample volunteer agreement from a nearby County, perhaps Wake.

Former congressman Bob Etheridge and I didn’t see eye to eye on several issues concering this country but one thing I will have to stand up for him on is he never forgot where he came from and he never forgot the people of this county. I would like to know where Mrs.Elmers is, we could use her right now but she is no where to be found. Mrs. Elmers sometimes will send someone from her office but that is always the same thing, I will have to ask Mrs. Elmers or I will have to take that up with Mrs. Elmers. In other words, nothing, we need schools, we need the government to give Harnett County what they promised when Brac started and to this point nothing. Big Fat Nothing! I have not heard a word of anything Mrs. Elmers has said or done on this issue. Maybe as a county we need to look at where the candidates come from and if they have any roots in our district which would help them remember who put them in office. I am yet to hear from anyone in any office that is willing to stand up for Harnett County and our issues with schools. We are waiting and listening and hoping for some answers from our state and federal officals! We had a 1/4 cent sales tax increase on the ballot last election which would have paid for the new Highland Middle School but just a few of us pushed for that and we see what happened to that. Ground has been broken for that school and yet the funding issue is still there.. Go Figure!!
