County Manager Dismissed
December 3, 2012
Harnett County Manager Scott Sauer was dismissed today after the new board of Commissioner took oath and came out of closed session.
The vote was 3-2 with Commissioners Hill and Miller voting against the motion enacted by New County Commissioner Gordon Springle. This is not a shock to most people since this was a preconceived plan of the new Commissioners. There were many 3-2 votes today one being the vote for Vice Chairman Position. Commissioners Hill and Miller voted against Gary House becoming Vice-Chair. Mr. Burgin was elected Chairman with a 4-1 vote with Ms. Hill voting against the motion.
Joseph Jeffries was appointed as interim County Manager while the county seeks a replacement for Mr. Sauer position. The county will still be responsible for Mr.Sauers severance pay, most thought that the new board would hold off on the termination of Mr. Sauer to another date, but the new board wasted no time to perfecting their new agenda.
Tim McNeil and Dan Andrews both received the Order of long leaf pine from the Governor for their years of service to the county. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is among the most prestigious awards presented by the Governor of North Carolina. The Order of the Long Leaf Pine is presented to individuals who have a proven record of extraordinary service to the state. Contributions to their communities, extra effort in their careers, and many years of service to their organizations are some of the guidelines by which recipients are selected for this award. The honor is most often presented when a person retires. The new board has now made a switch, still 3-2 just different people in the seats.

Joseph Jeffries is an excellent candidate for County Manager based on his existing knowledge of county operations.
