ANGIER, N.C. — Three men were killed Saturday night when their vehicle slammed into a tree on Dupree Road about 6 miles east of Angier.
State troopers said alcohol is suspected in the crash, which happened just before 10 p.m.
Troopers said Douglas Ray Baldwin, 46, of Wild Jasmine Court in Willow Springs, was driving west at high speed when he ran off Dupree Road and struck a tree. He was killed along with his passengers, Tony Ray Collins, 38, and Willie James McNair, 57, both of Panther Lake Road in Willow Springs.
Only McNair was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
The wreck was the third in the region to claim lives over the weekend.
A Carborro man died in a single-car crash Saturday afternoon on Old Greensboro Road in Chapel Hill.
Law We, 26, drove off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected and ran off the left side of the road, authorities said. His vehicle hit a ditch, then struck several trees.
Alcohol is not suspected in the crash.
In Raleigh, a 25-year-old man died early Saturday after losing control of his car and crashing on southbound Capital Boulevard near Interstate 440, police said.
Darnell Marquise Johnson, of Raleigh, lost control of his 2008 Ford sedan at about 4 a.m. The cause of the wreck has not been released, but authorities said Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The southbound lanes of Capital Boulevard and a ramp from I-440 were closed for about three hours.
