SANFORD, N.C. — Two people were pulled from a car that went off a bridge and into a creek in western Harnett County Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The crash occurred at about 4 p.m. on Barbecue Church Road, off N.C. Highway 87 southeast of Sanford, authorities said.

State Highway Patrol troopers said Raheem Miller lost control of his car on the way home from work and ran off the right side of the road. He then over-corrected and ran off the road to the left, hitting a guardrail on the bridge and flipping over into a creek, troopers said.

Miller, 24, was listed in critical condition at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville. Passenger Gordon Harrington, 53, was listed in fair condition at WakeMed in Raleigh.

Troopers said Miller will be charged with careless and reckless driving, failure to maintain lane control and speeding.

Crews cleaned up gas spilled in the creek.
