Spring Lake Shootout, Standoff Ends in Arrest

At approximately 0145 hours on January 17, 2014 the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency 911 call in reference to a Burglary / assault / domestic situation. Deputies responded to a single wide mobile home located at 28 Kelly Creek Street Spring Lake, NC. Harnett County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene at 0153 hours and received information from the caller that there was a gunshot victim and two small children inside the mobile home. Gunshot victim was identified as Mark Simon B/M age 18 of Coats, NC. Harnett County Sheriff’s Office negotiators arrived on scene and were in contact with the armed gunman. At 0623 hours the gunshot victim was released from the residence by the suspect and was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital. At 0815 hours a six year old child was released, physically unharmed by the suspect and at 0823 hours a two year old child was released, physically unharmed by the suspect. After the two year old child was released the situation turned into a stand-off between the suspect and law enforcement officials. At 1010 hours the suspect exited the residence and attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle causing property damage. The suspect’s vehicle tires were disabled by Sheriff’s Deputies and was caused to stop approximately 250 yards from residence. The suspect, Bradley Campbell B/M age 22 of Lillington, NC was taken into custody and charged with (1) count attempted murder, (5) counts of first degree kidnapping, and possession of a firearm by felon.
