Annual Groundhog’s Day Breakfast Kicks off Political Season in Harnett County
With candidate filing beginning next week, the Harnett County Democratic Men’s Club is kicking off the political season. This Saturday at 8:30 a.m. the club will hold its annual Groundhog’s Day Breakfast at the Governmental Complex in Lillington.
This event began in 1985 and has been a political mainstay since. Many state and federal candidates have used the breakfast as a stage to announce their candidacy. The 2014 theme will be the honoring of past and present Party Chairs.
Congressional Candidate Clay Akin has confirmed that he will be attending the event to kick off his campaign for 2nd district congressional seat.
“Harnett County has a long heritage of producing committed elected leaders who demonstrate broad vision. Party Chairs have always been their bedrock of support,” Club President Brad Salmon said. “It is our high honor as a club to recognize these distinguished persons.”
The master of ceremonies will be Harnett County native and past Party Chair Judge Gerald Arnold. Judge Arnold is a former member of the North Carolina House and retired as Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals.
For more information call (910) 984-1012. The cost of the breakfast is five dollars.
