First Principal Named For Highland Middle School

At the Board of Education meeting held on February 3, 2014, the Harnett County School Board approved the appointment of two staff members to new positions.  Brian Graham, principal at South Harnett Elementary, was named Principal of the new Highland Middle School and Trinity Kelly, Assistant Principal at Overhills Elementary, will join the staff of South Harnett Elementary as the Interim Principal.
grahamMr. Graham, who has served as principal of South Harnett Elementary since J…uly 2010, will be the first principal of the new Highland Middle School, which will be opening in the fall of 2014 with sixth grade students.   Mr. Graham, a career educator with over 24 years in the field, began his career in 1989, as a teacher in Wilmington, DE.  He taught physical education there for three years.  In 1992, Mr. Graham relocated to North Carolina, and was an Exceptional Children teacher in Hoke County.  In 1996, he accepted his first administrator role as the Assistant Principal of South Hoke Elementary.  In 2000, he was named to his first principalship at Rockfish Hoke Elementary, where he served for four years.  In 2004, he was named Hoke County Principal of the Year.  In July 2004, Mr. Graham joined the Harnett County Schools team as the Principal of Benhaven Elementary and served there for six years.  In 2010 he was appointed Principal at South Harnett Elementary. Mr. Graham has an undergraduate degree in Health and Physical Education from the University of Delaware and a Master of School Administration degree from Fayetteville State University.  He is an active member of several organizations and served as the President of the Harnett County Principal and Assistant Principal Association from 2006-2008.  He is an Executive Board Member of the WHOA PTO Thrift Store and also serves as Board Chair of Solid Foundations.  Brian and his wife, Colleen, a Harnett County Schools Literacy Coach, live near Sanford and have three sons, Michael, Ryan and Connor.
