Murder and Assault in Home Robbery Dunn

On December 30, 2012 at approximately 10:57 AM a 911 call was made to the Harnett County

Communications Center in reference to an assault/home invasion at 276 Jernigan Rd. Dunn, NC. Deputies responding to the scene found Victim Charles C. Stewart (W/M 76 YOA of 276 Jernigan Rd.) deceased. His body was discovered on the exterior rear of the residence. Inside the home Deputies found Sharon Stewart (Wife of Charles Stewart/WF, 62 YOA) whom had multiple injuries. Mrs. Stewart was transported to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital from scene.

Initial investigation revealed that Homicide/Robbery/Burglary/Assault had occurred around 10:30 AM. Along with firearms, jewelry and US currency, a 2001 Chev. Van was also taken from the scene.

At approximately 7:40 PM James Robert Davis (W/M, 56 YOA, and Unknown address) was arrested and charged with first degree murder (additional charges to follow). Davis was apprehended at an abandoned house at the 400 block of Grady Rd. Clinton (Sampson County), NC. The stolen vehicle was also recovered at the residence. Davis is a former employee of Mr. Stewart. He was released from employment about a year ago.

This is an ongoing investigation and Sheriff Rollins will release an update tomorrow. No additional information will be released this evening. Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assisted in the apprehension.


The attached photograph is Feb. 2012. Davis has not been booked into the Detention Center at time of this release.
