On February 17, the Destiny bus visited Overhills High School. The Destiny Traveling Science Learning Program is the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center’s way of providing hands-on science education to pre-college teachers and students across North Carolina. Ms. Stacie Siebert, Biotechnology Teacher requested a Bright Ideas Grant, asking for funding for Destiny to visit the school. She received the grant, and her Biotech students were able to experience the mobile laboratory. This is the first year Biotech has been a program at Overhills; the students wore scrub uniforms their principal bought them, and practiced gel electrophoresis, which is a procedure that deals with forensics and DNA. The students enjoyed this innovative approach to science education.
