Issues Impacting the 2nd District Commissioner Race
In a recent forum that was held in Dunn, NC between the candidates seeking the 2nd district county commissioners seat currently held by Gary House. In the questions section of the forum the candidates were asked what needs to be done to help with the overcrowding situation happening in the Harnett County schools in the western portion of their district.
Commissioner House said that other avenues need to be explored along with a bond that he has proposed in the past, with the sales tax increase that was approved during the election that is a great start but that’s just the beginning. Steve Blackburn a democratic candidate said that the county needs to figure out more ways of creating revenue for the school system. Donna Rigby another democratic candidate said that the county needs to reach out and get the federal Government to help with the funding of new schools.
Long time Dunn Businessman Abe Elmore the republican running against house said he” knew nothing about overcrowding at overhills in the western part of the county because he’s from Dunn”. Many people in this district are concerned about the school situation and whoever takes this seat must be willing to help with the overcrowding issues facing the western part of the county and the county as a whole.
