Berube Named Program Manager For Harnett County Animal Services
Steve Berube has been named Program Manager for Harnett County Animal Services, replacing Rhonda Hudson, who retired earlier this year. Berube was promoted to Program Manager after 13 years as an Animal Control Officer with Harnett County. “I’m excited about it,” Berube said of taking on his new role. “I’ve got a lot of great ideas I want to do to push Animal Services into the future.” Under Berube’s leadership, Harnett County Animal Services is preparing to launch a new volunteer program and a spay and neuter program. Harnett County Animal Services will also partner with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety and Harnett Correctional Institution to implement the “Leash on Life” program, which will allow inmates to train dogs in preparation for adoption. “This program will allow the inmates to give something back to the community and hopefully learn a new trade for when they get out of prison,” Berube said. “It will also help some of the dogs here at the shelter get a second chance, too.” He thanked Harnett County General Services Director Barry Blevins for the opportunity to serve as Program Manager. “Steve has already done so many great things with Animal Services like implementing the spay and neuter program, bringing in volunteers and working with our partners,” said Blevins. “I expect to see him continue to improve on the services we deliver at the animal shelter.” Berube is a native of Erwin and a 1980 graduate of Erwin High School. He is married to Ola Parker Berube and has two children, three stepchildren and 14 grandchildren.
