Erwin Elementary School hosted Harnett County’s very first Elementary Science Olympiad Competition Saturday, April 12, on its campus in Erwin. Eleven teams representing seven schools in Harnett, Cumberland, Johnston, and Wake counties competed in 18 events that consisted of a series of hands-on, interactive, challenging and inquiry-based events in the various disciplines of biology, earth science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, engineering and technology.
Erwin’s Varsity Science Olympiad team won first-place medals in Work it Out; second-place medals in Bridge-a-roni, Data Crunchers, Genes-R-Us, and Super Sleuths; and third-place medals in Ecology Expert, Junk Box Build-Off, and Weather Permitting. They also won third place over all.
