Shale Energy Town hall Meeting Set For Angier
Senator Ron Rabin is holding a Town hall meeting discussing fracking in North Carolina; the event will take place on July 24th 2014 @ 7:00PM at the Angier Elementary school located at 130 East Mclver st, Angier. The meeting is open to the public but they suggest that you go to Senator Rabin’s website and RSVP. The format of the meeting is not the norm for traditional Town hall meetings. A traditional town hall meeting is an American term given to an informal public meeting, function, or event derived from the traditional town meetings. Typically open to everybody in a town community and held at the local municipal building, attendees generally may voice their opinions and ask questions of the public figures, elected officials, or political candidates at the town hall. Attendees rarely vote on an issue or propose an alternative to a situation.
The format for this town hall meeting is that, when you arrive you will be given a chance to write down a question for the panel to answer and the questions will be drawn. Sources say that this meeting will not allow residents to have dialogue with the panel or elected officials but will serve as an informative meeting.
The speaker scheduled for this event is Jim Womack a Lee County Commissioner and Chair of the Mining and Energy Commission of North Carolina. Mr. Womack is a 1977 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering (with concentration in National Security and Public Affairs). He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Business Management from American Technological University and a Master of Military Arts & Science Degree in Operations, Plans & Training from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.
Mr. Womack has been an outspoken proponent of fracking in North Carolina for the last few years and has been a controversial elected official linked to using fake names on websites in order to attack other elected officials. He has been the subject of many North Carolina media outlets for his behavior and choice of words toward other elected officials.
The press release that came from Senator Rabin’s office did not indicate any other speakers, so the format lacks pros & Cons and allows the fox that is guarding the hen house to be the speaker and moderator of the meeting without any input from geologist or engineers that specialize in chemicals or subjects that pertain to fracking.
The “town hall” meeting comes on the heels of over 5 months of negatives TV ads launched against Senator Ron Rabin for his support in fast tracking fracking in North Carolina. Many residents question the format and speakers scheduled for this event and see it, as a political campaign move and conflict of interest since there is no one on the panel that is against the proposed fracking.
