Students at LaFayette Elementary participated in International Dot Day

To promote good citizenship, students at LaFayette Elementary participated in International Dot Day. International Dot Day was inspired by a book called “The Dot” that was written by Peter H. Reynolds. The Dot tells the story of a caring teacher who reaches a reluctant student in a remarkably creative way. In the book, the teacher dares a very resistant student to “make her mark.” Encouraged by her teacher, the student sets off on a journey of self-discovery.
Begun in 2009, International Dot Day celebrates bravery, creativity, and self-expression all over the
world. Students at LaFayette Elementary, under the direction of Mrs. Sarah Fiero, read several stories about making a difference. Then they created their own dots, used an iPad app that morphed their dots into 3-D images and made cards for hospitalized children in North Carolina. Students learned that even they can “make a mark” by recognizing kids in our state who are struggling with health issues.
