Wrecks are abundant on first day of 421 closing in Buies Creek

Approximately 1 hour after Highway 421 closed this morning for tunnel construction, the first major traffic accident occurred. 1 person was airlifted by Duke Life Flight with a hip fracture after an extended extrication. This accident occurred at the intersection of Leslie Campbell Avenue and Old Stage Road which will be much busier than usual due to detours over the next 30 days. Special thanks to Harnett County EMS, Coats Fire Department, and Duke Life Flight for their assistance.
Crews were staying busy today with another MVA occurring earlier this afternoon at the intersection of Sheriff Johnson and Oak Grove Church Road. Despite significant vehicle damage, only one patient was transported and they sustained minor injuries.
