You Have To Stand For Something or You Will Fall for Anything
As many may know, I ran for the NC Senate and the County Commissioners seat in 2012. During that time I was able to meet a lot of friends and have a first-hand glimpse as to the machine that runs our very freedom. Many people I crossed paths with during my campaign trail were genuine people who wanted to make a difference in the lives of the people of our district. With that being said many seemed to be out there running for their own agendas and ideas that had large money donors behind them.
Today I read in the other Harnett County Paper that Commissioner Jim Burgin and school board member Bill Morris were backing the proposed charter school and praised the idea of the school reducing the burden of overcrowding. This would be great if this was true, now don’t get me wrong, yes the school will open some seats in the area where the proposed school will be located but in actuality the number of seats will not impact the growth problem that we face. We are growing at a rapid pace here in Harnett County and just a few seats will do nothing. The public must also realize that the County will still be paying for this charter school so the taxpayers will still be footing the bill for the school meanwhile the board and the property that the school will set on will file to be tax-exempt from paying property tax. In essence the charter school will gain not the county, but the county will foot the bill and will also lose the revenue that the tax bill would have brought into the county.
During the election cycle these two men who were so supportive of Don Davis for senate showed pride and loyalty to our roots here in Harnett County. But all of that was thrown out the window and the two men joined the other side that was leading the attack on a well-respected man like Don Davis. We the people here in Harnett County and throughout North Carolina must wake up and see that the wool is being pulled over our eyes. We are losing control to people who don’t have the long line of Heritage that many of us share. Loyalty cannot be bought and cannot be given away, but that is exactly what is happening right in front of our very eyes. As the old country songs says “You’ve Got to Stand for Something or you will fall for anything”
