Lt. Kevin Justice of the The Salvation Army of Johnston and Harnett Counties spoke to the Dunn-Erwin Rotary Club today. The Salvation Army is an international movement with its roots dating back to 1865 when it was formed in London England. The Christian organization soon moved to the United States in 1881 and has been impacting lives through spreading the Gospel and meeting human needs ever since. Lt. Justice shared the
annual report for Harnett County stating that last year, “2004 individuals were assisted with food, clothing, utility assistance or back to school assistance. They assisted 97 families with the Harnett County Angel Tree program.” He also reported on the programs in the Nursing Homes and Prisons. He told the Club members “that all the kettle money collected in Harnett County stays in Harnett County to meet the food and gifting needs for children at Christmas, and any funds not used at Christmas still remain in Harnett County to assist with needs throughout the year.” Lt. Justice added, “we offer emergency services to families through our office in Dunn, we assist fire victims and victims of natural disasters.” The Dunn-Erwin Rotary Club members volunteer each year to ring the Salvation Bell at Walmart, with members volunteering each weekend between now and Christmas.
